Contemporary art does not yet have a history. It makes no sense, therefore, to tell his story chronologically, but rather thematically, with an emphasis on the diversity of approaches of individual artists and artists to visual creation. The exhibition of contemporary art by the Gallery of Modern Art in Hradec Králové is largely based on its recent acquisition activity. It features middle- and younger-generation artists who have been making their way into public collections only in recent years.
We think of the late 1960s and 1970s as the frontier of contemporary art. We see the development of conceptual, on a idea built art and the increasing variety of forms and contents of artistic creation as important factors in its creation. We do not find a uniform style in contemporary art. Every artist, every artist makes her own language. They are expressed not only in painting or sculpture, but increasingly also in photography, performance, film, video, text, digital technology and many other ways. Apart from formal disunity, a common feature of contemporary art is that it does not resemble traditional art. It's much closer to scientific research, therapeutic activities, or socially activist projects, for example.
