Helen Mayer & Newton Harrison: from The Elbe River Project / A Grean Heart Vision prepared with The Conceptual Media Studio of Milos Sejn, Academy of Fine Arts in Prague, 1991
The unsual program of the exhibition for this gallery will introduce six art projects, the oldest of which was carried out before the quarter-century, while others are still current. What unites them is interested in the Czech and Moravian landscape and especially the motive of direct and active care of it. While the medical term for resuscitation is allusion to this plan, the term amputation with a certain exaggeration referring to the vulnerability of our environment and projects that seek to improve its quality. At the exhibition will be presented documentation and ambitious evocation activist concepts The Elbe River (Newton Harrison & Helen Mayer Harrison with Milos Sejn‘s studio in the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague – Ivana Hanzlikova, Jana Peterkova), Water and Life (T. Büsch J. Kabilka), landscape projects He, She and Landscape (Lukas Gavlovsky), Crosses paths statues landscape people (AnotherLandscape – Jan Ambruz, Pavla Kacirkova, Krystof Ambruz), guerilla Agrosquatting (Jana Dolezalova and Stepan Platek) and institutionally critical Submit an Island (Jan Trejbal). The visitor will be confronted with their statements about the relationship between man and landscape, the need for coexistence, empathy and reciprocity, as well as hints of a larger story of this remarkable and borderline artistic strategy.
