Ayers Rock, 1987

From the distance, I see the whole of Ayers Rock.

I'm coming closer, the rock is getting bigger.

I am able to better see its structure, erosion has furrowed its surface.

Vertical cracks remind one of untrimmed sheets of paper.

I am finding the first stones, small, and larger ones.

Everything is the color of earth, red, red-brown, red-orange.

I am coming to the foot of the rock, I am passing by caves.

The rock gradually loses its shape, it becomes a gigantic matter.

It shadows the horizon.

The foldings, grooves, cracks, hollows protrude.

All around, nothing, a horizon, nothing, can be seen.

Only the color of the rock, changed by the weather, by the sun, by the seasons.

The shadows, the structure, the surface of the Ayers Rock protrude.

I am touching.
